On a hot and sunny day is there anything more refreshing than a chilled beer? Despite being mainly a wine or real ale kind of girl, I often try specialist beers, predominantly from Belgium, Germany, Italy & Japan – Belgian fruit beers, blonde or wheat beers being my favourite amongst the offerings.
So a welcome addition to my table came in the form of Daas Organic Beer – the first and only Belgian beer to be certified by the soil association and brewed traditionally and exclusively in Belgium.
Now I am not going to jump on the organic debate bandwagon that is currently doing the rounds. My view is that any food or drink produced without artificial chemicals or pesticides can only be a good thing. Having also spent a great deal of my hard earned on a gruelling 10 day Detox in Koh Samui a couple of years back – I have experienced firsthand the holistic health benefits of ridding yourself of toxins that build up over time.

Daas Premium Belgian Organic Beer
As you can see both beers look very tempting, although I am yet to find a beer that doesn’t. The Daas Witte was cloudy and pale gold in colour with a small head. Ray and I both agreed that this was a very refreshing beer with subtle orange citrus tones, a full flavoured hoppy kick and clean aftertaste.
The Blond produced a good sizeable head and was light gold in colour. Again there were citrusy notes and a full hop flavour, although this beer ended on a pleasant sweet note.
We were both impressed with the beers, they had character, full flavour and made a refreshing change from our usual Ale fests, although at the end of the day, we both prefer the more gutsy and pronounced flavours of the British Real Ale. Credit to Daas though, the Belgians’ know how to brew a good beer.
