Food and art have long been established as a compatible and harmonious partnership; each capable of pleasuring and stimulating our senses as well as taking us on a nostalgic journey through our lives. The Art Café merges these two creative passions into one business, bringing us the very best of both worlds.
Beautiful artworks surround this light, open and welcoming cosmopolitan cafe. Big comfy sofas, intimate armchairs or chunky wooden tables and chairs give you a choice of seating to suit your mood. The relaxed, informal atmosphere, gentle café buzz and excellent food make you want to stay… Oh and the coffee is very, very good.
The notion of The Art Café was formed by a local experienced head chef and her established artist husband. Together they share an avid passion for good home cooked food that is created from local and seasonal quality produce; this is shown in abundance on the menus that run throughout the day at The Art Café.
The majority of the dishes and delicacies are home made using fresh local ingredients, from the light, moist and sumptuous choice of cakes and scones, to the delicious salads, coleslaw and imaginative sandwich fillings, homemade special recipe marmalades and pates, or my favourite, the cracking bubble & squeak. You can forget mixes, frozen fair and readymade pre-packaged fodder here, this is fabulous, fresh, healthy and comforting food with a bistro edge - all prepared with skill and care.
The breakfasts are hugely popular, from the full fry up utilising local sausages, free range eggs and their famous bubble and squeak, to the vegetarian breakfast feast, or the lighter smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. The delicious homemade drop scones should not be overlooked either.
Lunch brings on a further choice featuring ciabattas, sandwiches, their famous homemade soup and ‘half a sarnie’ deal, as well as more substantial meals including liver, bacon with Bubble & squeak, or homemade fishcakes with parsley butter sauce and salad - yum. You can alo just pop in for a fine coffee, a read of the newspaper and peruse the beautiful local art as well as the menu – I would certainly recommend.
