Perrywood Garden Centre and Coffee Shop is situated on the Kelvedon Road, just one mile south east of the A12 between Witham and Colchester. Their home-cooked food is a firm favourite with their many regulars, who return again and again for the fresh, daily changing menu, cream teas and views from the conservatory. In spring time you can even watch nesting blue tits via a nest box camera.
Local suppliers include Milins Butchers in Tiptree and the Crusty Loaf bakers in Maldon. Fresh ingredients are used to cook food on the premises each day. Firm favourites like quiche, sandwiches, ploughman’s and baked potatoes are always on the menu whilst hot lunch specials are changed daily to make the most of seasonal ingredients and to offer variety to their many returning customers.
Menu examples include the popular ‘Homity Pie’ - layers of baby new potatoes, onion, garlic, cheddar cheese and sour cream in a wholemeal pastry case, Beef in Guinness with a Stilton Crust and Fisherman’s pie. Their freshly baked scones and delicious cakes are particularly popular, and cream teas are served with Tiptree jam (of course!) and thick cream. High quality cooked breakfasts are served until 11am to start your day.
The coffee shop opened in 1999 and is self-service with room for around 160 people in the main building, the adjoining conservatory overlooking the Kelvedon Valley and an outside summer terrace. It’s very relaxed and there is plenty of space for those with wheelchairs, buggies and high chairs.
They cater for dietary requirements and can tell you the ingredients in their home-cooked food if you have allergies or intolerances. There is always a vegetarian main meal, sandwich and quiche option (whilst stocks last). You can now buy Perrywood gift vouchers which can be redeemed in the coffee shop, as well as the garden centre.
Friendly staff serve home-cooked hot and cold lunches, cooked breakfasts and an excellent selection of cakes and scones to go with your tea or coffee. A great place to meet up with friends and family for a tasty bite to eat, as well as enjoying the family run, independent garden centre.
