Just off of Southend High Street in Clarence Road you will find Parksons cash and carry; a store specialising in Chinese and Eastern specialist ingredients and supplies. The shop is quite a find; it is an adventure for the senses to just walk around and explore the wonderful array of items on sale.
Kien Wong moved from his original shop in Ridgway Road to the larger Parksons, in 2006. He has worked hard to attain and maintain a high level of quality and freshness in all that he supplies, resulting in being the major supplier to the majority of Chinese Restaurants and takeaways in the Essex area.
The range of items on offer is vast; there are isles packed full of dried ingredients such as soup stocks, fruits, beans, noodles, rice, teas, health broths, roots, sweets, nuts, biscuits, spices, herbs, fish and meat. A freezer isle offering a tempting choice of dim sum, buns, frozen fish, seafood, vegetables, fruits and meats.
Chinese, Thai and Japanese sauces, condiments, pastes and pickles fill another isle and you can also equip your kitchen with pans, woks, cooking utensils and a range of Chinese crockery.
However, in my view, the real draw of the shop is the wide choice of fresh ingredients on sale. Including, beautifully crisp and succulent vegetables, like bok choy, choy sum and wong baak (Chinese leaves/cabbage,) an assortment of fresh noodles, soya bean curd, herbs, roots and exotic fruits. Freshly cooked dumplings, deep fried bean curd, crab and fish cakes… I could go on, although I think you are better off making a visit yourself.
Our Summary A large shop with a vast array of high quality fresh, dried, tinned, bottled and frozen Oriental and Asian produce - sold business to business and to the public. Also, a great place to buy woks, pans, cooking utensils and crockery. Friendly, courteous and helpful staff. Excellent fresh produce at very good prices. |
