Wicks Manor Farm Shop

Wicks Manor is a family run pig farming business situated in Tolleshunt Major, Maldon, just off of the B1026 Maldon Road, between Great Totham and Tolleshunt D’Arcy.

As a nation we are becoming more and more aware of the affect the habitat, feed and welfare of animals has upon their meat.  We want full flavoured, fine textured succulent cuts of meat that cook and eat well, from animals that have lived a stress free existence – and why not, we do have the choice.

Buying locally produced, traditionally reared meat used to be the way of life just a few decades ago before intensive farming and long distance carriage of animals flooded the market with inferior quality, yet cheaper priced meat.  Fortunately we are learning from our mistakes and reverting back to traditional farming methods.

At Wicks Manor their high quality pork comes from pigs that are reared in large open straw pens and are fed a natural diet of wheat and barley, grown and milled on the farm.  The pork is fully traceable and all of the animals live under the strict regulations of Farm Assured British Meat.

The farm has a the only fully licensed on-farm cutting plant in Essex and supplies pork products to local stores, supermarkets, farm shops and farmers’ markets throughout East Anglia.

The high quality and great taste of their pork has been nationally recognised and awarded; in 2008 alone Wicks Manor achieved not only received the Pig & Poultry Marketing ‘Cut Above Meat Quality’ Award, but the ‘Sausage Producer of the Year’ Award sponsored by Marks and Spencer.

Amongst their products are bacons that are smoked with a blend of oak and beech woodchips and dry-cured by hand with a blend of curing salts and Demerara sugar. Sausages that are made with hand-boned shoulder, have no added fat and are filled into natural skins.  Plump, succulent hams and gammons that are full flavoured, meaty and cook without the watery residue or shrinkage associated with inferior products.
