The Crowded House Brasserie (Prev Crofters) is situated in Maldon road just off of the High Street in Witham; a pleasant Georgian town 9 miles North of Chelmsford and 14 miles South of Colchester, which has easy access from the A12.
The Crowded House Brasserie is set in what was originally a large 18th century cottage. The interior still retains much of the wonderful original features including dark timber beamed high ceilings and a beautiful open fireplace.
The owner, David, took over in 2004 and is proud of the fact that it remains one of Essex’s longest running wine bars and brasseries; having been serving customers for over 25 years.
The layout is large and spacious, decorated in warm earthy tones. There is ample seating stretching across two rooms; each with large wooden tables and high backed comfortable seating. It is a place to relax, unwind and enjoy a laid back drink or meal with all of the family at your leisure, in an informal, pleasantly buzzing atmosphere.
The menu changes seasonally and offers a range of tasty, straight forward Modern British dishes created in house using fresh, seasonal ingredients; much of which is sourced locally. You will find a scattering of Thai/Asian influenced dishes on the menu, inspired by the Chef, Ian Preston, who with over twenty years culinary experience, has cooked in Australia, China and Thailand, as well as London.
A daily Specials Board lists further seasonal dishes to tempt you. Fixed price lunch and dinner menus are available Monday to Friday and a reasonably priced light/express lunch; for those who want good food served within a limited time frame, or prefer a lighter option.
There is a well stocked bar and a wine list offering a good choice wines, champagnes, desert wine and port; all at a reasonable price. For something a little different, Crowded House have a ‘wines and champagnes of the month’ board, all sold by the bottle, or the glass.
Our Summary Informal relaxed dining, in comfortable vibrant surroundings, with a pleasant Brasserie buzz. Great freshly cooked food at very reasonable prices, skilfully prepared using fresh, seasonal ingredients; much of which is sourced locally. Good choice of wines and champagnes. Family friendly. |
